busy life!!!

Wow i have not posted on our blog in a really long time!

Here is a Quick up-date from last june to about october:
Alex started first grade!
Paige is learning to write her name!
Elijah learned to walk!
Brett is going to USU Tooele extention!

In october our life got really busy really quick and it takes more explaination!  so here it goes:
We noticed that Alex was going to the bathroom a lot and knew that it wasn't normal and so we decided to get him checked out by a doctor!  We were thinking that he probably had a urinary tract infection and they would give us a perscription and we would be on our way!  Well the got a urine sample and came back in and said that he had glucose in it, so they needed to check his blood sugar levels ( I still didn't think anything of this because i have had this happen to me with pregnancy)  then they began to ask if he'd been eating a lot, drinking a lot, acting more tired and a whole lot of other things that were all things that have been happening we just didn't ever make any kind of connection between them.  When the doctor came in to talk to me he said he blood sugar level was in the 460's  (it's supposed to be between 80 and 150 for his age)  My was in shock!  then he proceeded to tell me that he thought he was type 1 diabetic!  I was in complete shock!  The diagnosis would have to be confirmed by an endocrinologist(i'm not sure if that's spelled right)  Our doctor sent us to Primary Children's Hospital for this!  We went and picked up brett and headed in to Salt Lake!  When we got there it was confirmed after about an hour and a half, that he had type 1 diabetes!  We were then admitted into the hospital so that we could learn how to take care of him!  He was starving at this point because we went to the doctor's right after school and it was now between 8:00 and 9:00 at night and he hadn't had anything since lunch at school (that is at 11:30 for him)  They had to get him some insulin before he could have dinner so we had to wait for the pharmacy it ended up being around 11:00 before he could eat.  I felt so bad for him, he was so confused.  After that we all just went to sleep.  I worried about him all night!  ( i still worry every night)  Then next two days we spent at the hospital learning everything we needed to know to take care of him!  We were actually lucky that we brought him in when we did because he wasn't nearly as sick as most kids are at the time of diagnosis.  They said he had mild to no dka, which i still am not quite sure what it is, I just know that it was a good thing that he didn't have it.  Before we gave him a shot ourselves we practiced on oranges with saline!  We had to give him a shot ourselves before we could leave the hospital!  This was the hardest part for me!  It made me sick! ( I sill dread giving him a shot everytime!)  He has been so brave!  He has never once complained about shots, checking his sugar, or how his life has drastically changed.  He is the toughest kid I know!  The day after we got home was a friday and his school haloween party so we went to school and got things started to get him taken care of at school!  We found out that his teacher was a nurse in the military, so that has been a huge relief that if something goes wrong in class there is someone from the medical field there all the time!  (the school nurse is only there 2 days a week)  It took a lot longer than it should have to get him taken care of at school (because of the nurse) but we got things worked out the way they need to be(because of the principal:) she was a huge advocate for us)  Things are still hard and i don't know if they will ever not be,  but we are managing!  I know that we were prepared for this situation even though we didn't know that's what was happening,  looking back i can see how we were prepared!

Shortly after all of this we found out that we were expecting #4 at our first appointment the dr. did an ultrasound he said "you've got a big baby in there"  we are due March 8th 2012!
So there is quite a bit going on right now!

Oh and last night alex lost his first tooth!  I think paige was more excited about the toothfairy coming!  Alex got up early before us and was so excited to show us what he got from the toothfairy! :)  It was a lot of fun and we took pictures that i will put up when i get them downloaded (or uploaded i don't really know what the difference is)
